Every letter of Syriac we forget, every tradition we forget is contributing to our extinction.

The recent events in Syria, and Northern Iraq (especially Mosul and Qaraqosh) show the destruction of Syriac Christianity. It was only in 1915 that the Ottomans Turks murdered countless Syriac Christians, it was only in 1933 that Kurdish forces murdered countless Syriac Christians. And today we see history repeating itself with ISIS.

But what are we to do? We as in the Syriac Christians in the diaspora? We must preserve what was given to us by our fathers. And their father's fathers. Because it is our tradition and our language that tell the narrative of our existence.

Every letter of Syriac we forget, every tradition we forget, every story by a persecuted individual we forget is contributing to our extinction. The same action that the Turks, Kurds and ISIS have done in 20th and 21st century.

WE MUST, preserve our traditions in the diaspora. We have no choice. If we forget our traditions and our way of worship. We will cease to exist as a people. We will be extinct.

The continual forgetting of our traditions, the 'abbreviation' of our Liturgies, the Latinisation of our prayers. Are all factors that are contributing to our extinction. They must be stopped and must be stopped now!

By all means, we must be able to integrate in the society we are living in. Whether that society be Australian, American or European. But I see no contradiction with our beliefs and the beliefs of these regions and countries. Western countries are built on Christian values. And we in the diaspora must remember this and seek to help our western brothers and sisters so that their country's fate will not be the same as our home country's sake.

Through the Birth-Giver of God Maryam and Mor Ephrem God Bless you all.
